The Essex City Set For Free Bulky Bin Collections In Bid To Slash Flytipping

Essex: Free bulky bin collections to combat fly-tipping

New scheme to tackle waste

In a bid to crack down on fly-tipping, Essex is introducing free bulky bin collections for residents. The initiative, which is expected to cost £250,000 a year, will be funded by the council tax and will see residents able to book a collection of up to three items at a time.

Why is this needed?

Fly-tipping blights neighborhoods, harms wildlife and costs taxpayers money to clear up. In Essex, the local authority spends £1 million a year on cleaning up fly-tipped waste. The new scheme is designed to make it easier for residents to dispose of bulky items, such as furniture and mattresses, without having to resort to fly-tipping.

How will the scheme work?

Residents will be able to book a collection online or by phone. The service will be available from Monday to Friday, and collections will be made within 10 working days. A maximum of three items can be collected at any one time. Items that will be accepted include furniture, mattresses, carpets, and electrical items.

What are the benefits?

The scheme is expected to reduce fly-tipping by making it easier for residents to dispose of bulky items. It will also save the council money on cleanup costs. In addition, the scheme will help to improve the environment by reducing the amount of waste that is dumped illegally.

How to book a collection

Residents can book a collection by visiting the council website or by calling customer services on 01245 245245. Collections can be booked up to 12 weeks in advance. The service is available to all residents of Essex.
