Khelif Forces Carini To Surrender In First Round

Algerian boxer Khelif dominates Carini in Olympic debut

Khelif forces Carini to surrender in first round

Algeria's Imane Khelif made a triumphant start to her Olympic boxing campaign on Thursday, forcing Italian opponent Angela Carini to surrender in just 46 seconds of their 66kg category bout.

The victory was a major upset, as Carini was the higher-ranked fighter and had been expected to pose a serious challenge to Khelif. However, the Algerian boxer proved too strong, dominating the fight from the opening bell and landing a series of powerful punches that left Carini with no choice but to quit.

Khelif's victory is a major boost for Algeria's hopes of winning a medal in the boxing competition. The 22-year-old is one of the country's most promising boxers, and her performance on Thursday suggests that she is capable of achieving great things in Paris.

Khelif will now face either Australia's Kaye Scott or Venezuela's Omailyn Alcalá in the quarter-finals. A victory in that fight would guarantee her at least a bronze medal, and would make her the first Algerian woman to win an Olympic boxing medal.
