How Ought We Do Philosophy

The Future of Philosophy: A Conversation with Amia Srinivasan

How ought we do philosophy?

An interview with the Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory at the University of Oxford

In an era of rapid technological change and social upheaval, it is more important than ever to ask: how ought we do philosophy? Amia Srinivasan, the Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory at the University of Oxford, argues that there is no one single ideal of good philosophy.

“I think there are many different ways to do philosophy well,” she says. “What matters is that we are asking important questions, and that we are doing so in a rigorous and critical way.”

Srinivasan’s work has focused on a wide range of topics, including ethics, political theory, and the philosophy of race. She is the author of several books, including the award-winning “The Right to Sex” and “The Color of Time: Race and the Illusion of Destiny.”

In her work, Srinivasan challenges traditional assumptions about the nature of good and evil, right and wrong. She argues that we need to be more open to different perspectives, and that we need to be willing to question our own beliefs.

“I think philosophy is at its best when it is challenging our assumptions and making us think in new ways,” she says. “It is a way of opening up our minds and understanding the world around us better.”

Srinivasan’s work has been praised for its originality, rigor, and clarity. She is one of the most influential philosophers of her generation, and her work is sure to continue to shape the future of philosophy.
